The mild climate and the unspoilt landscapes offer a rich choice for walking, hiking and trekking. There are the many medieval bastides with tiny arcaded squares, crumbling fortifications and quiet orderd streets. Between the Gaillac vineyards and the twisting gorges of the river Aveyron, you'll find landscapes reminiscent of Tuscany. Nearby is the Forêt de Grésigne, the largest oak forest in southern France and a "natura 2000" site.
A short leisurely walk or a daytrip? We do a lot of walking ourselves, and will be happy to help you with suggestions. You are welcome to consult our documentation and maps.
The GR-walking trails "Bastides Albigeoises" and "Gorges de l'Aveyron" together with numerous local quiet footpaths make Artichaud to an ideal place to stay for a walking holiday.
